12 Months, 14 Shmups, £1200 – Game #1

To understand what I’m attempting to achieve with this project do please see the previous blog entry here:

Well I’ve managed to secure my first game from the list, DeathSmiles 2 X Limited Edition.

After a bit of negotiating with the seller on Ebay I picked it up for the bargain price of £64, a full £7 cheaper than I expected to pay.

Expect a new video during the coming week.

I also finalised the list of games I’m going to go after over the coming months:

Blast Wind - Sega Saturn
Harmful Park - Playstation 1
Radiant Silvergun - Sega Saturn
Ibara - Playstation 2
Mushihimesama Futari Ltd Edition - Xbox 360
GlayLancer - Megadrive
Gigawing 2 - Dreamcast
Zero Gunner 2 - Dreamcast
Twinkle Star Sprites - Dreamcast
Last Resort - NEO GEO AES
Cotton 2 - With Tea Cup - Saturn
Soldier Blade - PC Engine
DeathSmiles 2 Limited Edition - Xbox 360 (Bought)
Hyper Duel Sega - Saturn

The hunt begins and there might even be some spare money in the war chest for a bonus buy!

  1. All i can say is.. holy shit that's one hell of a list. i have 4 of those games but i want them all too :)

  2. Ha ha I know mate!! I've added those DC shooters to finish my collection off. They'll also allow me some months were I'm not dropping 100 notes on a game!! Contemplating getting strike witches this week. Rwally enjoying what I've played of DS 2 X so far. I'm impressed you've got 4 on the list!!

  3. I don't know much about 360 games, I presume that's one of those pesky 'bullet-hell' shmups?

  4. Yep mate, it's a bit less hardcore than some but it's still tough later on <:}

  5. You are in for an absolute treat with Futari. It just has everything you could ever want. Gorgeous graphics, visceral gameplay, and intense scoring. Do make sure to download the Black Label, though. I thought it was the perfect scrolling shooter before I downloaded BL, but BL revealed "problems" I didn't even know it had. It ups the eye candy to a ludicrous degree, and turns Maniac mode from something that you'd have to puzzle out into insane score candy. Also work on getting Ketsui Extra if you can, that's the second best in my opinion. Right now I'm thinking about picking up Deathsmiles IIX; it looks like a very fun game, but I didn't think the original was a standout among Cave's titles and I don't expect to like the 3D. Personally, I'm very much looking forward to a Cave-filled February with MMP/PS combo pack and DFK Black Label/Ketsuipachi. Anyways, enjoy Futari and everything else!
